Why not take the opportunity to explore neighboring countries while vacationing in Montenegro? Especially Croatia, which can offer a kaleidoscope of diverse experiences in just two days. Our two-day Dubrovnik and Split tour is more like a full-fledged journey through Southern Croatia. We’ll have plenty of time to see the main cities and drive along the stunning Dalmatian coast.

Croatia Tour: Dubrovnik and Split

DAY 1

  • Dubrovnik and Split: Čilipi (passing through)

Your introduction to Croatia begins with the picturesque countryside along the Adriatic Highway, connecting Montenegro and Croatia. The Konavle Valley boasts around 30 villages where ancient customs and traditions are still honored, and locals dress in national costumes on Sundays for lively fairs with cheerful dances.

  • Dubrovnik and Split: Cavtat

Passing through Čilipi and other Konavle Valley villages, we’ll stop in Cavtat to stroll along its beautiful promenade and explore the small Old Town. Cavtat’s history spans over two millennia, preserving numerous architectural and historical monuments from various periods that are well worth seeing.

  • Dubrovnik and Split: Panoramic View of Dubrovnik

After the cozy, peaceful Cavtat, we’ll head towards Dubrovnik and make sure to stop as we approach. The panorama of one of the world’s most beautiful cities is worth taking time for a photo session!

  • Dubrovnik and Split: Dubrovnik Old Town

In Dubrovnik itself, we’ll take a tour of the most popular attractions and stroll through the Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site. You’ll see famous landmarks like Stradun Street, Luža Square and Onofrio’s Fountain, the Spanish Steps and St. Ignatius Church, St. John’s Fortress, Sponza Palace, Rector’s Palace, the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, and much more.

And after this minimum sightseeing program, you’ll still have free time to visit other interesting places in Dubrovnik. For example, walk along the mighty city walls surrounding the Old Town, or explore Lovrijenac Fortress.

  • Dubrovnik and Split: Tavern Arka Restaurant

Now it’s time for a short break and lunch at the Croatian restaurant Tavern Arka Restaurant. In this charming establishment with stone arches and massive wooden furniture, you’ll enjoy a cozy atmosphere while tasting delicious Croatian dishes.

  • Dubrovnik and Split: Trsteno Arboretum

Recharged, we’ll continue our exciting journey through Croatia. The next stop on our route is the Trsteno Arboretum, famous worldwide after the TV series ‘Game of Thrones’. Lush greenery and colorful, fragrant flowers, shady alleys, fountains, and an ancient aqueduct – if you wish, we can stop and wander through the arboretum to enjoy this man-made beauty.

  • Dubrovnik and Split: Ston – Mali Ston

Next, we head to the Croatian town of Ston, which at first glance might seem like an ordinary small village with a population of just over 2,500 people. In reality, this town was once second in importance only to Dubrovnik. Today, Ston is popular for its extensive salt pans, the longest defensive wall in Europe, and incredibly delicious oysters cultivated in the lagoon. Thanks to the moderate salinity of the water in the narrow sea bay, local oysters are known for their delicate flavor – you can experience this for yourself if you wish, during a visit to the Kapetanova kuća oyster farm.

After strolling through Ston and Mali Ston, we’ll continue our journey westward, passing the panoramic bridge over Bistrina Bay along the way.

  • Dubrovnik and Split: Neum

Soon after crossing the Bosnia and Herzegovina border, you’ll see the town of Neum. This is the country’s only coastal resort town, with clean beaches and various water activities. While Neum now thrives on tourism, in earlier times (when beach holidays didn’t even exist as a concept), it held little value for a long time, remaining a small seaside settlement that passed from one power to another. Thanks to these repeated changes of ‘owners,’ Neum has become a unique town where you can simultaneously see Croatian, Turkish, and Serbian national characteristics.

  • Dubrovnik and Split: Rizman Winery (Rab)

We continue along the Adriatic Highway and return to Croatia. Here, near the town of Klek, right on the seashore, is the small but quite popular Rizman Winery. The local wine is highly valued for its taste, so we recommend a short stop at the winery to taste its renowned products and pick up a couple of bottles of select wine as gifts for loved ones.

  • Dubrovnik and Split: Baćina Lakes

Next up are Croatia’s natural attractions! We’ll drive along one of Croatia’s most beautiful rivers – the Neretva – and soon see the Baćina Lakes – turquoise pearls strung together like a necklace.

  • Dubrovnik and Split: Coastal Road and Dinner

The road will then return to the coast, offering you views of the sparkling water and picturesque tiled roofs of towns we’ll pass: Gradac, Drvenik, Tučepi, Makarska, Baška Voda, Brela, Stanići, Omiš.

Makarska Croatia

This long journey will conclude with a magnificent dinner at the restaurant with its own beach, Konoba Bracera. If there’s time and you wish, you can take a swim at one of the beaches.

Konoba Bracera Split

For the night, we’ll settle into one of the hotels in Split.

DAY 2

The morning of the second day will begin with a delicious breakfast wherever you prefer: at the hotel, a villa, or a city cafe.

  • Dubrovnik and Split: Split City

Ahead lies an eventful day exploring Split’s famous attractions, including those renowned locations where ‘Game of Thrones’ was filmed. The program includes sites such as Diocletian’s Palace, Jupiter’s Temple, St. Domnius Cathedral, Peristyle Square, the Golden Gate, St. Martin’s Chapel, the Silver Gate, and St. Dominic’s Church.

Split Croatia Tour

Additionally, we’ll admire the panorama of Split from the bell tower of St. Domnius Cathedral and stroll along the Riva promenade, seeing the port.

Depending on your preferences, we can also visit the Mestrovic Gallery (house-museum of the famous sculptor), the eccentric Froggyland museum, the Museum of Fine Arts, the Archaeological Museum, and Marjan Hill Park.
