It was founded by Monk Simeon of Dajbabe, who referred to it as the “underground home of the Queen of Heaven,” as this place has been dedicated to the Most Holy Theotokos since ancient times.
Visitors often speak of the monastery’s extraordinary spiritual energy — a presence you can truly feel with every fiber of your being.

As early as the 3rd century, the first Christians sought refuge from persecution in the catacombs beneath this site. Today, Dajbabe Monastery is a unique cave complex shaped like a cross.
Within its walls rest the relics of Saint Simeon the Wonderworker, adding to the deep spiritual significance of this remarkable place.

After visiting Dajbabe Monastery, we continue to the most revered spiritual shrine in Montenegro — Ostrog Monastery.
We plan our arrival at a time when most group tours have already left, allowing you to explore the monastery in peace and quiet. You will have ample time to walk around the sacred grounds, speak with the monks, and, if possible, meet the abbot.

The monastery is located high in the mountains, at the foot of the Ostroška Greda cliff. Majestic and snow-white, it appears almost unreachable. Reaching the Upper Monastery via the stone steps can indeed be a challenge.
Yet those who choose to walk this sacred path — once taken by Saint Basil the Wonderworker himself — believe it brings spiritual purification and forgiveness.
If the ascent on foot feels too demanding, we can arrange transportation to bring you directly to the monastery entrance for your comfort.
