You can’t fully experience Montenegro just by its coast. Be sure to plan a trip to Montenegro’s canyons! In the northern part of the country, the mountains are so high they take your breath away, and the emerald rivers are swift and crystal clear. Montenegro will reveal a completely different side to you!

-
Grand Canyons: Sunrise over Risan
Our Montenegro canyons tour begins early in the morning. In the rays of the rising sun, we’ll drive along the coast and stop at a convenient spot above the town of Risan. From here, you’ll get an excellent view of Risan Bay in the Bay of Kotor. At sunrise, the smooth surface of the bay’s water looks simply divine! The landscape practically begs to be photographed!

-
Grand Canyons: Piva Lake
From the coast, we’ll head through the Dinaric Alps, pass the city of Nikšić, and arrive at the picturesque Piva Lake. It’s considered the deepest reservoir in the entire Balkan Peninsula! The lake was artificially created by damming the Piva River canyon. Small towns and villages are nestled along its shores. Piva Lake is undoubtedly on the list of Montenegro’s most beautiful places!

-
Grand Canyons: Piva Canyon
Driving along the shores of Piva Lake, we’ll make many stops for photo opportunities. The main one will be the view of the Piva River canyon from the Mratinje Dam. The dam is 270 meters high. Along with the Đurđevića Tara Bridge, it’s a unique structure you absolutely must see!

-
Grand Canyons: Sedlo Pass
Now we’ll drive along Montenegro’s most beautiful mountain road – the road through Sedlo Pass. We’ll literally ascend above the clouds to be alongside the highest peaks of Durmitor National Park. Narrow gorges, amazing views of fairytale alpine meadows, monolithic mountain ranges, and a feeling of complete freedom await us.

In such places, you always want to breathe deeply and savor every moment! Of course, we’ll stop at a specially installed frame, featuring Mount Sedlo, to take many awesome, original photos!

-
Grand Canyons: Savin Kuk Peak
After passing the saddle, we’ll find ourselves on the plateau of the high-altitude Durmitor Park, right at the foot of Mount Savin Kuk – Montenegro’s second-highest point. If you wish, you can ascend to the peak using the cable car. The summit of Savin Kuk is the only place offering a view of the famous Black Lake. Only here can you capture an aerial photo of Montenegro’s iconic landmark.

-
Grand Canyons: Black Lake
No Montenegro canyons tour can bypass it! Black Lake is located at an altitude of 1400 meters above sea level and is the main gem of Durmitor National Park. Its water is very cold, a deep dark green. The lake’s shores are framed by dense coniferous forests. Trees reflect on the smooth surface of the water. In the morning, when the shade from the trees covers the lake, the water appears black as tar. This is why the lake is called Black. A mysterious and beautiful place! The air here is special, and white clouds float so close you could almost touch them.

-
Grand Canyons: Quad Biking (optional)
Optionally, you can add quad biking in Durmitor National Park to our program. The cost is 90 euros per quad. Two people can ride on one.

-
Grand Canyons: Canyoning (optional)
Canyoning in Nevidio Canyon is an exciting adventure through the picturesque and hard-to-reach gorge of the Komarnica River, located in the heart of Montenegro, at the foot of Durmitor. The name “Nevidio” (meaning “invisible”) reflects the canyon’s peculiarity, where the river literally disappears into the rocks, creating impressive waterfalls, narrow passages, and crystal-clear natural pools. It’s one of the country’s most beautiful and unique canyons, ideal for active recreation and nature lovers.

-
Grand Canyons: Tara River Canyon
And what Montenegro canyons tour would be complete without visiting the country’s main gorge? After the peace and quiet of Black Lake, the Tara River appears especially turbulent – it’s no wonder rafting enthusiasts flock to it. The sparkling green river rushes over numerous rapids, forming clear, calm pools behind them. The Tara’s water is so clean and transparent you can see the bottom.

-
Grand Canyons: Đurđevića Tara Bridge
Ahead, another great human creation awaits us – the Đurđevića Tara Bridge. Its delicate arches, spanning the gorge, blend wonderfully with the surrounding landscape. The 5-arch bridge is 365 meters long, and its height above the river reaches 172 meters. Thrill-seekers can enjoy a high-speed descent on a zip-line across the canyon here. You can get your adrenaline pumping too! If not, you can simply enjoy the impressive panorama of the Tara Canyon – where else will you find such unearthly beauty!

-
Grand Canyons: Morača Canyon
Leaving Tara Canyon behind, we approach Montenegro’s most beautiful gorge – Morača Canyon. Soon you’ll fully enjoy the drive along the mountain serpentine, but for now, let’s stop briefly at the very beginning of the canyon. A tour of Montenegro’s canyons requires a lot of energy. So, it’s time for lunch and a cup of aromatic tea or coffee in the fresh air. Unforgettable impressions await you next! The gorge deepens, and sheer mountains rise on both sides of the road like monolithic walls. They seem to hang overhead. And at the very bottom of the gorge, the emerald Morača River flows. Persistently carving its way between inaccessible mountains, it gradually calms down, and beyond the suspension bridge, it steadily carries its turquoise currents onward. Montenegro’s canyons are an amazing sight! We’ll definitely stop at a viewpoint where the mountains are especially high and gloomy, and the Morača River roars, rolling emerald waves through rocky barriers. Photos can hardly convey the impressive atmosphere of this place, the freshness of the air, and the feeling of being squeezed between two cliffs. You’ll feel like you could reach out and touch the opposite bank!

-
Grand Canyons: The Way Home
In the evening, if you wish, we can drive through Podgorica. Here you can stroll through shopping centers or take romantic photos of the Millennium Bridge illuminated by spotlights. Visiting Montenegro’s capital will be a fitting end to our rich program. From here, we’ll head back to the Bay of Kotor.

Book your Grand Canyons tour in Montenegro! You’ll get a ton of cool experiences, see nature you’ve never seen before, and take lots of photos that will delight you for a long time, bringing back pleasant memories!
