Love nature and fresh air? Then a private tour to Skadar Lake is exactly what you need! The gentle lapping of waves, a warm pleasant breeze, picturesque water lily fields, and a serene atmosphere – it’s like balm for the soul after the noisy beaches and bustling streets of Montenegrin tourist towns. You can experience the charm of a peaceful holiday even better during a private tour to Skadar Lake. Just you, your guide, and nature! We offer you not only a boat trip across the lake’s surface but also a visit to historical and architectural sights: the colorful village of Virpazar, Besac Fortress, the local landmark – Žabljak Crnojevića Fortress, and the town of Rijeka Crnojevića, known as the “little Balkan Venice.” Along the way, we’ll make a stop at that very spot, whose photo is usually used to advertise Skadar Lake online, but where tourists are never taken!

Skadar Lake: Panoramic Views
As expected, we will pick you up from your hotel and embark on a fascinating tour through the natural beauties of the Zeta Valley. Our excursion will begin with a beautiful road above Skadar Lake. Your collection of photos from Skadar Lake would be incomplete without shots taken from the Pavlova Strana viewpoint! Many tourists specifically come to Skadar Lake to see the famous panorama of the Rijeka Crnojevića river with their own eyes – this viewpoint offers a stunning view of the river’s horseshoe bend.

-
Skadar Lake: Karuč Fishing Village
Karuč is a wonderful, quiet corner of Montenegro that is not yet widely known to tourists. Here you can enjoy the fresh air in the shade of fig and pomegranate trees, drink pomegranate juice, and learn more about the lives of local fishermen.

-
Skadar Lake: Rijeka Crnojevića Town
Next, we’ll visit the beautiful small town of Rijeka Crnojevića, nestled comfortably at the foot of a cliff. The town’s appearance is extraordinarily picturesque: stone bridges over an emerald river, lush greenery everywhere, and colorful stone houses with tiled roofs. In this cozy town, we’ll transfer to a boat, which will take us to explore Skadar Lake. Our water journey will begin on the narrow Crnojevića River, with green water lilies growing along both banks. You’ll be able to take spectacular photos here.

Skadar Lake: Boat Trip
Where the river flows into the lake, a vast expanse of water opens up, taking your breath away! At this moment, you’ll understand why Skadar Lake is rightly considered the largest in Europe. But first, we’ll stop by a fish farm to taste delicious Skadar carp!

Skadar Lake is famous not only for its impressive size – it’s also home to a huge number of different birds. For example, during the tour, we might easily encounter amazing Dalmatian pelicans! Of course, swimming is a must: the lake water is clean, fresh, and warm, and the boat has a convenient ladder for getting into the water.

-
Skadar Lake: Besac Fortress
After the boat trip, we’ll head to see Besac Fortress. This is one of the few fortresses in Montenegro that has been restored and rebuilt. The stone walls have significantly brightened, and the structures have regained their former appearance – there’s no better place for a photoshoot! In addition, from the hill where the fortress stands, magnificent views of the surroundings open up, including the village of Virpazar.

-
Skadar Lake: Virpazar
We arrive at the old fishing village of Virpazar. A special fishing atmosphere is still preserved here, although the place has long become a tourist destination. The local market sells many interesting souvenirs and products from local artisans. By the way, from the shore where the village is located, not only does a beautiful panorama of the reservoir open up, but Albania is also visible, as the border runs right through Skadar Lake.

-
Skadar Lake: Žabljak Crnojevića Fortress
On a cliff above Skadar Lake stand the stone ruins of an ancient fortress city, founded in the 10th century. Until the 15th century, it was the capital of the ancient state of Zeta, serving as the last stronghold for the Zeta Crnojević dynasty. In 1878, it became part of Montenegro. Now, only the ruined walls of a few structures remain of the fortress city, but this makes exploring this medieval architectural monument of Montenegro even more interesting.

-
Skadar Lake: Lipa Cave
Before the tour ends, another interesting natural site awaits us – Lipa Cave. This is a karst cave with sparkling stalactites and stalagmites. The underground beauty is effectively illuminated by lanterns, the floor in the main halls is concreted, and there’s even a small bar in the cave where you can taste Montenegrin wine or rakija and buy a bottle as a souvenir. Be sure to bring jackets or windbreakers. It’s quite cool in the cave.

And with that, our excellent private tour to Skadar Lake, including a boat trip, concludes, and we head back, admiring the magnificent nature of Montenegro from the window!
