In reality, this town was once second in importance only to Dubrovnik. Today, Ston is popular for its extensive salt pans, the longest defensive wall in Europe, and incredibly delicious oysters cultivated in the lagoon. This is the country&#8217;s only coastal resort town, with clean beaches and various water activities. While Neum now thrives on tourism, in earlier times (when beach holidays didn&#8217;t even exist as a concept), it held little value for a long time, remaining a small seaside settlement that passed from one power to another.
